“You cannot protect the environment unless you empower people, you inform them, and you help them understand that these resources are their own, that they must protect them.”

          Prof. Wangari Maathai

The Environment and Service Program (EaSP) aims at mitigating the effects of climate change and global warming through advocating and leading in the implementation of service based learning initiatives with a key focus on reforestation. Over the years, the exploitation of natural resources such as forests, rivers, lakes and including poor garbage disposal and pollution have resulted to numerous negative health hazards. To counter this negative trend, the Centre for Character and Leadership seeks to inspire and support the achievement of 10% forest cover through growing trees in alignment with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Driven by the motto ‘Our Community, Our Responsibility;’ and inspired by the desire to make a positive difference; youth and students from diverse communities and learning institutions are mobilized to undertake community service projects. This includes planting of trees, establishing tree nurseries and organizing community environmental clean ups. This drive is meant to go a long way towards conserving environment and increasing social cohesion among the participating communities.
